    Looters!

I have been listening to the news regarding New Orleans and I have been thinking to my self that this place sounds more like Haiti or Somalia than it does the USA. I can maybe understand pillaging a store to get food and water, but these freaking hood rats are stealing TV's and other electronics! Joke is on them though because they will not be able to plug any of that stuff in for a few months.

On top of that they are shooting at rescuers. Hospitals are being evacuated because they are being threatened by gangs who want their supplies and relief trucks full of food & medicine are being highjacked. Man, thats freaking ghetto. Why doesn't the governor of LA declare martial law and issue the national guard orders to shoot lawbreakers.

I can understand (to an extent) why people would be looting grocery stores or drug stores for food/water/medicine. But electronics? Geez. I read that they're stealing guns too..great.

Isn't most of the national guard in Iraq right now? I guess diverting some troops to escort resue teams would be a good idea, but putting the city under martial law would take a large number of troops. I doubt that bush would be willing to divert that many troops from his precious war.

Sigh...some people will do all that's in their power to help those in need. Then...there are some of those who will exploit that and the area that the need is centered in. It reminds me of the news I heard of people picking up orphaned children from the tsunami and forcing them into prostition...was that true?

I wouldn't be surpirsed. I know in some of the larger cities in india, child protitution is big business. Sometimes, people go to villages and offer to buy children....the whole thing disgusts me to no end. There are some people who will use things like the hurricane or the tsunami for their own selfish needs....disgusts me.

    Yup people=Shit

Welcome to the human condition, The same thing that makes people great entreponeurs is the same thing that makes armed looters steal from thirsty people. It is disrespectful in the highest degree but this is why government has been the highest and best armed people forever. I would like that all the folks without water and shelter turn the stolen tv's into albatross for every dumb looter that dont have the common curtrousy to help people out before helping themselves. It's a shame but people without honour are around us all and we must work to maintain our own selves so that we can teach our children.

Yes...I remember they caught one of the Indian Govt. Officials hoarding 15,000 litres of mineral water donated for the Indian Tsunami victims for his bath and whatnot. Just like they have interviewed looters in New Oleans who said they stayed behind because of the 'easy pickings' after the storm.

They SHOULD shoot these people BUT Political Correctness forbids it.

It seems to be pointless to steal a television when you can't plug it into anything, you can't prevent someone from stealing it from you, and although stealing is wrong, you are better off spending your energy stealing food and water.
Once the National Guard starts pegging off the idiots, the sick can get airlifted out of there and people can get bused out of town. What a complete waste of a day.

A bit quick to jump to conclusions isn't it?

A couple of shots of people with clothes etc will not necessarily mean they are all looting for gain.

What if those Nikes were the only shoes in the store. Was it a Nike store? If you were cold and shoeless I don't thnk you be thinking about fashion.

    C'mon people.

Big disasters always bring out the best and the worst of Humanity. The poorest, youngest and weakest suffer the most. Thank goodness for all the people who are doing their best to help.

Last year New Orleans escaped a big hurricane and many experts took the opportunity to further warn the local Government about a need to seriously prepare. They knew the Superdome roof would be blown off and that 1000s would be unable to evacuate because they don't have cars, etc. (Not counting the ones who chose to stay - yikes). Was anything done? Sadly, the budget for shoring up the levies and canals was drastically cut due to the War. Maybe they would not have broken...

My heart breaks for all the suffering. I feel lucky to take a shower and enjoy a good meal any time I want. We should all have our own emergency plan and supplies. Living in Earthquake Land it's a must. I have stuff at work, home and car.

    That's my rant.

"Deep in the Snow Mountains lives a bird called Kankucho which,
tortured by the numbing cold, cries that it will build a nest in the morning. Yet, when the day breaks, it sleeps away the hours in the warm light of the morning sun without building its nest. So it continues to cry vainly throughout its life. The same is true of people."
