Hai Hai, are you recommending the movie, the 13 episode TV series, or the manga?

He actually told me about them when I first joined.

The movie, the first FIVE episodes of the show. Not the manga, it is all fake.

Fake! It can't be! By it's very nature, if it's in print it must be true. I mean they make fictional tv and movies, but never the printed comic!

I was taught the kuji kiri. It is a series of finger knitting you do while meditating, each hand position allows you to manipulate your ki in different ways. I was taught this by my sensei before he even taught me how to kick or punch. If I asked him what type of martial art I was learning he would reply, "karate". Keep in mind I was 11 years old at the time which was a good enough answer for me. It was private instruction every other day at his apartment. Training lasted all day. Unfortuneately I only trained under him for a few months before moving away w/my family but my exploration of the martial arts continued. After moving I starting taking karate at a dojo in S. georgia. I soon realized that what I learned was far different than what I was currently being taught. My old sensei wore shoes when he taught me, my new dojo didnt. My old sensei made me meditate for long peroids of time using the kuji kiri I mentioned above. My new dojo had no meditation. My old sensei made me jog, and swim as well as all my other techinques in the pool. My new dojo did not. Only later on in life did I realize what I was taught, the shoes I mentoned earlier were actually tabi boots. And all the cross-training I did outside was to build endurance in multiple enviroments(land, water). I also found the exact type of medition I was taught in the book, Ninja Mind Control, by Ashida Kim. Also the last hand position of the kuji kiri is the hand position "enlightenment" which is the same hand position a kendoka uses in order to meditate.

I do not consider myself to be a ninjutsu practioner. All I know is what I've been taught. I have attended many martial arts schools, but I have continuned to practice the kuji kiri to this day. It has helped me through some of the worst times of my life. Not many ppl have had a 1st hand experence with ninjutsu, just thought I'd share.

um..i've checked out several american ninja dojos..they were fakes. Ashidia kim was one of the fakes i found. i wouldn't take what you read in his book too seriously. His real name is...david redford..i think (its not ashida kim!). He started teaching ninjitsu around 1987...around the time ninjitsu began to become commericalized in america. I took a look at his website..and heard several complaints about him. As far as i can tell...fake ninja.
here, visit his website...you be the judge.

I did a search on kuji kiri, and according to some sites, it's more of a buddhist ritual rather than a ninjutsu one. The site also goes on to say that the kuji kiri was shared by both ninja and samurai alike. which explains why in kendo meditation we use the last of the kuji-kiri hand positions even today.

Kuji Kiri seems to be an interesting subject to pursue. If kendoka still use one of the positions today the others might be worth learning and applying as well. What would be the best place to look for instruction in this?

    thats very hard to say...

I learned it from my first sensei a long time ago. And the only literature I've found on it happened to be written by a fake according to kendonewbie. And its not really something that can be done simply by reading a forum but I'll try to answer any of your questions the best I can. I will though explain the final position of the kuji kiri which is shared by modern kendo.....

from the first to the second to last of the hand pos. you are concentrating on using your ki to improve a single aspect some physical, some mental.

the last of the kuji kiri positions is called zen with one hand overlapping the other and the tips of the thumbs touching(we all know this of course) but what makes the zen position different from the rest of the kuji kiri is that youre trying to not think and to calm your mind

    continue later....
    the boss is pissed...
