Whats distrubing about the history of Toyama Ryu was that it was the main ryu for the officers of the Imperial Army in WWII. They used Toyama Ryu to practice on thousands of innocent people. In Nanking, two officers even had a competition of who can behead the most china men.

I've done Gumdo for about 6 years and this Haedong Gumdo practioner came to demonstrate what it was. It looked like he was dancing, with shinais. Also, they have moves where they jump as they hit mein and stuff. It didn't look very practical. I would just go with Gumdo/Kendo (no difference to me).

My friend, you are generalizing. Not only Korean, but also Japanese, Americans and many other countries have tried to hide what they made a mistake in the past. Also, it is not all Korean who claims Kendo and Samurais are from Korea. I have seen many Japanese, Chinese and American claims many stupid things...

I also have no doubt the Koreans had skilled warriors, and a rich history, I just don't understand the claims on kendo, samurai, etc.

Again, you are drawing conclusion about Korean with limited information. Do you see any proof of Korean government invlovment of claiming Kendo is orignated from Korea ?? I would really appreciate if you show me any Korean government website that is mentioning about Kumdo is ORIGINATED from Korea.

Korean claims that Korea have originated some of sword making know-how and sword fighting technique. But most Koreans have never said that Kendo is designed by Korea. If you read KKA website, it cleary said Kendo is made by Japanese. If you think Haedong Kumdo will generate lot of tourist revenue for Korea, think again. Where have you get that figures from ?? It seems like you have been living in Japan for 12 years and have been brain washed by other Japanese extremist.

Again, please do not try to disregard all Korean or others with limited knowledge. It will only make you fool....

That and I think they're trying to make kumdo into the next big thing for Korea, just as tae kwon do has been. Hadong kumdo is all a part of it as a way of trying to boost Korea's image and popularity in martial arts. Kind of like an alternative way of increasing tourism I suppose.

I was only speculating, not trying to disregard Koreans and their claims to martial arts. I should also point out that I AM Korean so the last thing that I want to do would be to disrespect myself.

When I said that there are claims that kumdo originated in Korea long before kendo did and that the samurai originated in Korea, my information came from what someone told me. I never meant to give the impression that it was first hand information. This is just what I was told about the debate between kendo and kumdo.

Also, I do not appreciate accusations of being "brainwashed," becoming an extremist, or being called a fool. In the future, please do not make such statements as they are not welcome.

Well, you shouldn't have said it was Koran government is behind of all the problem unless you know it for sure. At least, if your family member is being accused by others, do you accuse him without investigating ? I am not asking you to cover it but you might want to find about the truth. You were accusing Korean government based on what you have heard from others.

Look, the reason I said it was the Korean government is because THAT is what I was told. Obviously you feel my information is wrong and normally, I would go and double check that information right now but at the moment I'm not very concerned with this debate and do not feel the need to pursue it for the time being. If you're still bitter about what I said, then I apologize, get over it, and move on.
