Venice Dojo Newbie Shinsa

Last night the Dojo held it's first beginners shinsa, The head instructor (misterkurukuru) and one 7 Dan sensei (Obata Sensei) were the examiners. everyone seemed real nervous in the beginning but settled down after a while.

The requirements for each group testing.

Beginner into Hakama and Keiko-Gi. ( 3-4 months after starting )

Knowledge of basic commands, Kirikaeshi, Uchikomi Drills, Suriashi,
3 passed
2 no pass
1 no show

Hakama, keiko-gi into Bogu ( no men )

All of the Above, with good Kamae, Better Basics, Fumikomi, Kiai, Zanshin.
1 pass

To Full Bogu.

All of the above plus, Tenouchi, ( no clubbing ) Good Kiai, Good Zanshin.

There has been a push to have the individual dojos award the lower grades. Hence a Beginner's shinsa.

nah, its more like to shut the newbies up and give them defined goals so that they dont have to keep asking "when do i get to put my hakama on" or "when should i buy my bogu".

Know what? That makes total sense.. and it's a fantastic idea.. gives goals and structure. I was always told that 6-4 Jyu were determined with-in yoru dojo anyway....

I'm just glad they don't follow Sumo rules where you can be demoted in rank...
