FINAL UPDATE: The 3rd Kendo World Tokyo Keiko-kai – Saturday August 2, 2014

This is the final update for the 3rd Kendo World Tokyo Keiko-kai which is now only four days away.

This year’s event, which will be held at Meiji University’s Nakano Campus, has proven to be more popular than the first two, and we reached our limit of 50 participants over a week ago. However, there have been a couple of cancellations so we still have two places open.

The number of participants may have dropped slightly, but the number of sensei has increased. We will now be joined by H8-dan Toda Tadao-sensei and K7-dan Kokaze Akira-sensei. Toda-sensei is a former two-time winner of the AJKC and is famous for being the only person to have passed the 8-dan examination doing nito. Kokaza-sensei is an auditor of the AJKF.

The complete list of sensei is as follows;
H8-dan Masago Takeshi, a director of the All Japan Kendo Federation
H8-dan Toda Tadao, nito kendoka and former AJKC champion
K8-dan Nagao Susumu, Meiji University Vice-Principal
K8-dan Hirakawa Nobuo, former Meiji University and Tokai University Professor
K8-dan Hayashi Nobuo, Hitotsubashi University Kendo Club coach
K8-dan Kawanabe Shoji, a businessman from Shizuoka
K8-dan Shiina Haruo, a businessman from Yokohama
K7-dan Nakiri Fuminori, President of the Japanese Academy of Budo
K7-dan Kokaze Akira, AJKF auditor

Keiko will run from 1000-1200. The first half will be mawari-geiko between the participants and then there will be a short break followed by keiko with the sensei.

After keiko we will move to Meiji University’s Cross Field Lounge for food and drinks and a chance to socialise, meet old friends and make new ones. There will be a raffle and Shogun Kendogu and All Japan Budogu have donated some fantastic prizes. Kendo World will also be giving away some books and magazines. Also, every participant will receive a Kendo World tenugui.

This year’s event is the day after the Kitamoto Summer Seminar, that runs until Friday August 1. If you are coming from overseas for that seminar, why not join us as well? We are very pleased that several Kitamoto participants have already signed up.

As mentioned above, we now have two places left, so if you would like to take part, please send an email to with your name, nationality, grade and a contact phone number as soon as possible.

The cost of participation in this event will be 5000yen, payable in cash on the day.

The Kendo World Team is looking forward to seeing you on August 2!
